Plenty Of Fun During Labor Day Weekend
It was a busy Labor Day weekend across the Pecos Valley. The Cottonwood Winery near Artesia had the first ever Blues and Barbeque Festival. There was plenty of music, vendors and a car show was put on by the Carlsbad Automotive Restoration Society. Bottomless Lakes State Park near Roswell hosted Bubblefest. Divers took part in a competition as two decks of weighted cards were dropped into Lea Lake and divers competed for the best five card hand. Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park in Carlsbad hosted Day of the Vulture activities on Saturday. Finally, the Roswell Symphony Orchestra hosted their annual Labor Day Pops Concert at Spring River Park and Zoo yesterday.

Accused Bank Thief Taken In
The man accused of taking down a couple of banks in Carlsbad nearly a month ago has been arrested. According to the FBI in San Antonio, Douglas Edward Ford was arrested on Friday in the Alamo City. The Special Agent in Charge says the suspect was arrested without incident at a San Antonio residence. Authorities from various states, including New Mexico, are looking at leads to see if Ford is responsible for the robbery of 11 banks since March of this year.

Roswell Elks To Remember 9/11
The Roswell Elks Lodge will hold its First Responders Memorial and Recognition Breakfast on Sept. 11. It will take place at the lodge located on Montana Ave. Over the next year some people hope to sell five thousand American flags to raise money for charities that help soldiers. The flags will be placed in a field near the NMMI campus to create “The Field Of Honor.”
